Professor Olsen earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Lycoming College and a Master of Science degree in Physician Assistant Studies from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2008.  She completed a postgraduate orthopedic surgery residency in 2009. Professor Olsen is a board-certified physician assistant and has practiced clinically in internal medicine in the Chicagoland area for the past 12 years.
